What is hospice care?
Hospice is end-of-life health care. When a person has a terminal illness and is expected to live six months or less, the physician or doctor may determine that hospice makes sense. The family is involved with the decision and planning.
The purpose of hospice is to provide comfort care; it is not treatment to cure the condition. Palliative care, which is care to reduce pain, will often be paired with hospice care to give the best quality of life. The attending physician of the person in hospice can continue to care for that individual.
Hospice can take place as in-home health care or at a nursing or assisted living facility.
Hanover Hospice works together with the family and physicians to provide the best hospice care wherever a person lives.
